Cendres+Métaux drastically reduces its energy consumption. 

In 2003 the heating system was changed from oil to gas in order to decrease the output CO2 and to reduce costs. Through the commissioning in November 2007 of a heat pump with a performance of 800’000 kWh, using the heat from the water of the production facilities, gas consumption could be reduced by 65%.
The concurrent rise in electric power consumption can be traced back to a number of facts. On the one hand we have many additional machines compared to the beginning of the decade. On the other hand the facilities are running longer (shift operation) and the increasing number of employees also provoked a rise in the consumption of electric power. The major part of the approx. 100’000 kWh was caused by the electric power the consumption of the heat pump. As a whole we can say that due to the installation of a heat pump and other energy saving measures a reduction of energy consumption of about 600’000 kWh per year has been achieved.
