The Jury

Patrick Schnider

Owner of the Oral Design Center Montreux

Why is your commitment to young dental technicians important to you?
I signed up for this challenge because I find it interesting and motivating for young dental technicians to participate and assess their skills.

Where do you see the future of the profession?
Dental technology will change and will continue to evolve with digitalisation and technology.

Which contribution can the CM Challenge make here?
Participating in this challenge is to show these manual attitudes become increasingly important in personalising the work done analogically or digitally.

What can Cendres+Métaux do to encourage young technicians?
The industry can participate in the training of young people in order to refresh their knowledge in "classic" or digital methods through specialist training.

Marco Däppen

Owner of the dental laboratory LEGEartis Zahntechnisches Labor

Why is your commitment to young dental technicians important to you?
To prove that even with digitalisation, our profession remains a highly interesting and creative one and that the craftsmanship involved in dental technology will not be lost in the process.

Where do you see the future of the profession?
The profession of the dental technician will always continue to exist, but in a very different form due to digitalisation. As digitalisation is associated with considerable investments, this will lead to the emergence of larger centres of dental technicians. Smaller laboratories will need to specialise and combine digital and manual craftsmanship optimally to produce aesthetically high-quality work in a rational manner.

Which contribution can the CM Challenge make here?
The competition is a good thing to bring out the best from the young talents. The CM Challenge offers young talents a «first» platform to present themselves in their profession, to distinguish themselves and to establish contacts.

What can the industry do to encourage young technicians?
What is important is that industry provides test materials and offers further training. – As Cendres+Métaux is already offering with the CM Challenge and the CM Academy.

Pascal Müller

Owner of the Schönenberger Dentaltechnik AG, Glattbrugg

Why is your commitment to young dental technicians important to you?
We must safeguard our profession. Our work cannot be replaced by machines. Individual fabrication, the passion for colour, form, texture as well as the attention to detail must be trained and cultivated.

Where do you see the future of the profession?
This will follow two directions. On the one hand there will be the digital designer, on the other hand the artist, who may be an individualist.

Which contribution can the CM Challenge make here?
The Challenge can help to motivate young dental technicians to improve their skills and go into more detail. With the CM Challenge, the next generation of dental technicians has the opportunity to express themselves and give it their all!

What can the industry do to encourage young technicians?
The industry can create contacts and enable participation in courses.

Marco Fuhrer

International Sales Manager & Dental Technician at Cendres+Métaux SA

Why is your commitment to young dental technicians important to you?
The profession of the dental technician is a wonderful, interesting and diversified profession. Unfortunately, topics such as time pressure or low salaries overshadow the profession, so that many young technicians reorient themselves after completing their demanding training. We need to take care of our young technicians to sustain this great profession in the future.

Where do you see the future of the profession?
The profession of the dental technician, in particular his/her workplace, has changed dramatically in recent years. In place of wax probes and knives, Bunsen burners and ceramic brushes, a mouse and a monitor have become the new instruments of technicians. Unfortunately, due to high time and cost pressure, traditional, high-quality craftsmanship will eventually disappear. The digital route will continue to gain in significance and only few patients will be able to afford an elaborately modelled crown.

Which contribution can the CM Challenge make here?
The CM Challenge is designed to bring together passionate technicians and young, up-and-coming technicians who want more than just to deliver quick, simple crowns, and to promote the actual craftsmanship of the dental technician. And quite possibly new talents who enjoy their profession will be discovered.

What can Cendres+Métaux do to encourage young technicians?
Within the context of the CM Academy, we already offer a variety of courses at moderate prices and with this platform, we would like to offer not only craftsmanship but also a lively exchange between experienced technicians and young talents.
