Start hands-on. Build real mechanical skills.

As a mechanical practitioner AFP apprentice at CMSA in Boudry, you’ll build solid, practical machining skills over two years, with a focus on bar turning (décolletage). It’s a hands-on route into precision mechanics, from conventional machines through to CNC production.

What you’ll learn

1st year

Technical foundations

  • Get started with milling, turning, and drilling on conventional machines
  • Machine parts, for example on conventional lathes
  • Learn to read technical drawings and master the essential measuring instruments
2nd year

Practical application (bar turning / décolletage)

  • Prepare the workstation and set up the machines
  • Shape, sharpen, mount, and set the cutting tools on the machine tools
  • Introduction to CNC programming, including TB-Deco and ISO software
  • Produce parts on CNC machines
  • Inspect and adjust parts directly on the machines for optimal quality
  • Monitor the operation of machines and installations
  • Carry out upkeep and maintenance work
  • Replace defective components
  • Dispose of and recycle waste (used oils, coolant, swarf, etc.) in line with environmental law
Apprentices rotate departments every six months to gain diverse experience.
